For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. Needing to make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation. Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire.
~ ENGLISH REVIEW~ I started Warcross on Saturday night, a little out of curiosity, the speech tempting me, and I could not stop. Few books make me this effect from the start! Warcross is a real favorite, I liked everything from the start to the end. Beginning in New York, we soon find ourselves in Tokyo with Emika, our heroine. The young woman, expert in coding and more precisely in high-level hacking, has just hacked the opening ceremony of the virtual game Warcross, known around the world. Revealed in the eyes of the 5 million viewers, Emika is contacted by the firm that produces Warcross, Henka Games, to work for them. Emika, living until then a miserable life, will find herself propelled to the rank of world player but not only that ... behind the scenes, things are far more dangerous than you think. Besides the joys to be in Tokyo again (you know my love for this city), I loved to immerse myself in this augmented reality. It is brilliant, breathtaking and above all, it would be totally credible in the future. Warcross is a totally interesting immersion game, full of twists and action, at every game, I had my heart pounding a lot. Marie Lu described each game with so much intensity that it was really eye-catching and very visual. Congratulations to her because I felt like I was playing! But Warcross is not just an ordinary game. Thanks to its creator, Hideo Tanaka, augmented reality invites itself into everyday life. It's very futuristic and at the same time, not so far away. Powerful, Hideo is reputed to be inaccessible, yet, by hiring Emika for a mission as dangerous, the young man will gradually open up to her ... I loved Emika and Hideo, very charismatic characters, whose presence leaves you breathless. Emika is a young badass woman who fights for her principles and what she believes in. Sensitive, she also shares her personal life, which makes her truly engaging and very human. As for Hideo, despite his cold side, I loved him and more specifically the bond he created with Emika that I found quite unique. Hideo also has his demons of the past and tries to act for the common future, in the end, although he is multi-millionaire, the young man seeks only affection and peace. While the two young people ally to investigate, things are much more complicated. Marie Lu embarks us in a hunt with a hint of thriller and mystery! Zero's identity was exciting to discover and I'm glad I saw my theory confirmed at the end! I can't wait to read the sequel! |
